Danny Herndon
Danny Herndon served thirty years in the United States Air Force, retiring as a Chief Master Sergeant. He serves as Treasurer of American Legion Post 38 in Floresville, Texas.
He entered active duty on 25 August 1981 and began his career as a Radiology Specialist. For sixteen years he worked as a radiologic technologist in supervisory capacities before retraining into the first sergeant special duty. Over six years he served as first sergeant for seven units and deployed in support of Operations Northern Watch and Southern Watch.
He later returned to radiology and became manager of the Radiology Squadron at Wilford Hall Medical Center — then the Air Force’s largest medical facility — before serving six years as Group Superintendent of the Diagnostics and Therapeutics Group, overseeing Allied Health. In that role he deployed in support of Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom.
He was selected as Senior Enlisted Manager for the San Antonio Medical BRAC transition that established San Antonio Military Medical Center at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. He completed active duty on 31 August 2011 and retired on 1 September 2011.
His decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with seven oak leaf clusters, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal with one oak leaf cluster, Meritorious Unit Award, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with nine oak leaf clusters, Air Force Good Conduct Medal with ten oak leaf clusters, National Defense Service Medal with one service star, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with one service star, Iraq Campaign Medal with one service star, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Air Force Overseas Short Tour Ribbon, Air Force Overseas Long Tour Ribbon with one oak leaf cluster, Air Force Expeditionary Service Ribbon with gold border and three oak leaf clusters, Air Force Longevity Service Award with six oak leaf clusters, USAF NCO PME Graduate Ribbon with two oak leaf clusters, Air Force Training Ribbon, and NATO Medal.
He serves as Treasurer of American Legion Post 38 in Floresville, Texas.
